Crafted in Hobart, this Timber Pendant features eight curved blades in either natural Tasmanian Eucalypt or a striking Ebonised stain finish. Designed by Duncan Meerding, the pendant reflects his unique approach shaped by vision impairment, with a focus on form and the interplay of light and shadow. A bold and considered design, the Propeller Pendant is well-suited to entryways, dining rooms, and other statement interior spaces.
Duncan shares: "The relationship between light and shadow and light dispersion are integral to my design process. Being legally blind with less than 5% of my sight remaining, the vision of light emanating from the peripheries of the different objects, reflect the alternative sensory world within which I design."
Blending organic curves with industrial precision, the eight-bladed structure is crafted using a mix of hand tools and machinery. Each blade slots into a custom aluminium bracket, secured with discreet grub screws and capped with a turned Tasmanian Blackwood nose cone.
Designed as a flat-pack fixture to reduce shipping costs and environmental impact, the pendant is simple to assemble and includes an instruction sheet with a supporting video available online. It comes with a 2m black cloth electrical cord, black ceiling rose, and all necessary components for installation.
