Australian Timber Propeller Pendant | Copper Patina

Regular price $1,991.00 NZD

Made to order: 2 - 12 Weeks

Crafted in Hobart, the Copper Patina Australian Timber Propeller Pendant pairs the warmth of natural timber with the raw character of patinated copper. The interior of each blade features a unique copper patina, developed through a custom-accelerated process and sealed with layers of clear enamel and blonde shellac to preserve its character. While stabilised, the patina may continue to evolve subtly over time, adding depth and individuality to each piece.

With a sculptural, eight-blade form, the pendant offers a balance of organic flow and industrial finish. Light filters through the curved timber structure, creating dramatic shadow play and revealing glimpses of the layered patina from different angles.

Designed by Duncan Meerding, whose vision impairment inspires his tactile and light-focused approach, the pendant centres on the sensory impact of light and form. The blades connect to a custom aluminium bracket using a discreet clamping system, which attaches to a turned Tasmanian Blackwood nose cone. Assembled using both handcraft and precision tools in Tasmania, the pendant is delivered in a flat-pack format to minimise environmental impact and shipping costs.

Duncan shares:
"The relationship between light and shadow and light dispersion are integral to my design process. Being legally blind with less than 5% of my sight remaining, the vision of light emanating from the peripheries of the different objects, reflect the alternative sensory world within which I design."

It includes a 2m black cloth cord, a black ceiling rose, and detailed instructions supported by an online video guide. Designed to suit interiors with rustic or industrial influences, this pendant is part of Meerding’s recognisable Propeller collection.
