Hamptons Lighting Trends: Effortless Luxury for Every Room

Hamptons style interiors consist of natural textures, materials and colours creating a light, bright, sophisticated yet beachy ambience, that comes across as effortless and calming. When it comes to Hamptons lighting, we often see the use of ceramic, linen, chrome against white and glass in the form of large stately lanterns and lamps, elegant wall sconces and traditional pendant lighting.

Within Hamptons, we have discovered four sub-styles. These four styles can be described as traditional, farmhouse, coastal, and modern. Since the nineteenth century, Hamptons housing has been owned by weekenders or summer houses in the area where Manhattans elite retreat to escape the heat of the city. Spending down time surrounded by flowing whites, clean lines and natural fibres.

The Hamptons style often consists of a classic and formal, yet relaxed look, characterised by white or weathered grey exteriors, and lots of details such as porches, balconies, balustrades and mouldings.
Interiors are light and bright with high ceilings and mostly neutral colour schemes, often set off against duck-egg blue or navy-coloured furnishings and accessories set on bleached oak or light timber floors.

For a more modern and beachy flair, blue or grey accents are an alternative to all white, and works well in coastal homes, reflecting the colours of the ocean. Further additions include themed decor i.e. shells, pineapples etc.
Within the Hamptons style we have found many examples of architectural styles including Colonial Revival, Arts and Crafts, neo Georgian to very contemporary designs.

Traditional Hamptons

Tradition Hamptons style spaces feel welcoming and as if they could have been part of a home for generations. Provincial Hamptons interior design style strikes that ideal balance between intricate details and high-end style, with casual effortlessness.

Hamptons style is decidedly unfussy and unpretentious, there is an admiration for the details and the finer elements of furniture and accessories. With an appreciation for both the old and new and a willingness to embrace the imperfections that might be found in certain pieces of furniture.

A use of natural materials like carved or rustic wood, linen, and wool, featuring parquetry, natural warm tones, armoire, cabriole legs, antique furniture, and antique gold accents. Brushed nickel, wrought iron, chrome, glass, and stainless steel are all popular choices for Hamptons kitchen pendant lighting. Antique chandeliers are often used as a way to bring in elements of traditional style and timelessness.

Farmhouse Hamptons

A more neutral tone, featuring predominately timber finishes, wood dominates the entire house, with exposed wooden beams emphasises and accentuates the classic cottage appeal. Traditional French doors and windows, barn doors, light and relaxed, cosy fabrics, white is the predominant colour.

Featuring an inviting kitchen composed of open, simple and rustic shelves and cabinets with glass doors, butcher block countertops and island benches leading into an open dining space, setting the tone for the remainder of the house. Incorporate an eclectic mix of furnishings paired with antique chandeliers and classic prints giving you a more genuine look. Farmhouse Hamptons interiors seem more graceful and charming as they weather with time so durable lighting is important.

Coastal Hamptons

Think seaside coastal surf shack. Nautical and tropical, boho schemes featuring a crisp, white interior with natural furniture made from rattan and wicker are common, casual, comfortable, and easy. Ocean inspired touches like shells, glass bottles, or woven baskets, but the key is not to go overboard. Decluttered easy and natural, a more minimalistic vibe feeling that everything just flows, bungalow style.

We see gorgeous rustic moments and different toned woods. The predominantly white foundation carefully paired with a number of other calm and inviting tones, giving a look that is equal parts cool and equal parts warm. Beaded basket chandeliers, barrel-inspired lantern chandeliers with rope details are coastally-inspired, as are chandeliers made of shells. Sometimes pendant lights may have woven shades, bringing in hints of nature and seagrass that’s works so well in a Costal Hamptons home.

Modern Hamptons

The highly trending style that takes a contemporary approach to Hamptons. Minimalistic, clean and striking in design, featuring brass and glass light fittings. Parquetry flooring and darker contrasting cabinetry against refreshing and crisp white walls.

Wall lights and lamps will give you extra light at night as well as being part of the decor. Above kitchen bars, you will very often find sleeker pendants with simpler, more modern lines. They may come in pairs or sets of four, promoting a sense of symmetry. Pendants may also be used as a way to bring in some bold contrast, so they may be darker in colour and have more of a sense of drama, in comparison to the typically light and airy colour palettes of Hamptons design styles.
