Project | Californian Bungalow- Bone Made

Bone Made's most recent 'Californian Bungalow' project in Concord, was a complete renovation and extension for a family of 6. The home is Heritage listed so the design duo ensured they adhered to Heritage guidelines, whilst also blending together both Classic and Contemporary design cohesively. The project scope included the design for an entry / mud room; an open plan living, kitchen and dining; a rumpus room for the kids, four bedrooms with all custom built in joinery and 2 bathrooms whilst also providing the design direction for the Alfresco area.

What was your must have piece or feature within the space?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one, so we have a couple! The beautiful big rattan pendants in the dining area, Hand Assembled Rattan Pendant by Lighting Collective, are such a beautiful feature and really assist in zoning the dining area. We also cannot go past the custom oak and rattan joinery we designed featuring a gas fireplace and the exposed flue detailing. It really helps to creating a cosy and homely vibe within the space.

Your key principals when creating your visual story?

Bone Made always start with a very strong concept as we refer back to this continuously throughout our design process. We also ensure we follow a ‘simple and seamless’ approach to design as well as avoiding trends as much as possible. We ensure our designs are considered and timeless.

How have you used lighting?

Within the Californian Bungalow Project we used various amounts of feature, decorative lighting throughout the home. We used soft wall sconces in the Master and En-suite to create ‘ambience’, we used Danish Porcelain Pendant Lights in the hallway and entry to create statement, but to also zone the space which houses the beautifully refreshed original fireplace.

We also proposed the Hand Assembled Rattan Pendant within the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Lighting is often an overlooked element, however we truly believes it can make or break a space. It transforms a space by altering the mood and feel and is a vital design element.

What do you hope people will feel when in the space?

The Californian Bungalow Project was designed for a growing family of 4 so we ensured the design of the home was very considered – practical design solutions paired with a timeless finishes palette to ensure longevity. We want people to feel at home and at ease within the space – like you never want to leave!

What will 2021 hold for you?

Bone Made are growing and expanding and we are about to hire out first team member which we are very excited about! We hope to continue to take on a mix of both residential, commercial and hospitality projects and work with more beautiful clients.

Who are you following?

We love ‘The Local Project’ – they’re always showcasing an abundance of refined and beautifully designed residences, we also love ‘The Design Files’ as they showcase a mix of both Designers, Artists and Creatives and we also love ‘The Palm Co’ – who we work very closely with! She captures work for an abundance of both designers and creators work and we love her aesthetic.
